Rev. William Benjamin Hartzog acquired his education at Van Wert County, Ohio schools and graduated from Ohio Northern University, Ada, Ohio and Bonebreak Theological Seminary, Dayton, Ohio in 1887. He was a pastor in Columbus and Cleveland, Ohio churches for twenty years and in Tecumseh, Michigan for ten years and in Mason, Michigan for eight years. He is the author of a work entitled "Ancient Masters and Jesus." This book won him the degree of Ph.D. from Central University, Indianapolis, Indiana in 1905. He lectured extensively on religious and literary subjects over Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania, Indiana and Michigan. As a Republican, he was elected to the legislature in 1924 and re-elected on November 2, 1926.
