Carolyn Kelly, passed away on the morning of July 5, 2020, in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. She was the widow of Paul James Kelly.

Born in Gladstone, Michigan, she was the youngest of 9. Daughter of Michael Patrick and Ada Wood Foy. Sister to Michael “Clem” Clement Foy (Fae), John “Jack” Foy (Lenore), Patrick Foy, Grace Foy Spicer (Ole), Richard Foy (Marion), Vincent Foy, Dan Foy (Marie), and Raymond “Bud” Foy. Survived by sister-in-law Margaret “Peggy” Kelly Charest. She received a Catholic education in Detroit, MI, and graduated from St. Francis De Sales High School in 1941. Carolyn continued her education and retired from Ford Motor Company in 1992.

Carolyn is survived by her daughters, Ann Carolyn Lenihan (Robert), Susan Kelly Kutlich, and son, Paul James Kelly Jr. (Chris Anne), and beloved niece Patricia Ann Foy. Her treasured grandchildren, Michael Z. Kutlich, Robert J. Lenihan III (Ashley), James K. Lenihan (Lily), Caroline K. Fines (Robert Jr.), Emma F. Kelly, Paul J. Kelly III. Her great-grand treasures Jacob A. Fines, Dalton K. Fines, Robert “Bo” Lenihan IV, and “Bobby” Robert Fines III. Carolyn is also survived by her many loved nieces and nephews.

Carolyn was treasurer of the Birmingham Senior Women’s Club as well as an active member of the Birmingham Community House and a past member of The Village Club in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. She also enjoyed many years volunteering at Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital and The Detroit Institute of Arts.

Carolyn was always young in her thinking. “Youth is not a time of life...it is a state of mind. Nobody grows old by merely living in a number of years; people grow old by deserting their ideals. Years wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul. Worry, doubt, self-distrust, fear, and despair...these are long, long years that bow the head and turn the growing spirit back to dust. Whether 70 or 16 there is in every being’s heart the love of wonder, the sweet amazement at the stars and starlight things and thoughts the undaunted challenge of events, the unfailing child-like appetite of what next, and the joy and the game of life. You are as young as your faith, as old as your doubt; as young as your self-confidence, as old as your fear; as young as your hope, as old as your despair.” -Anonymous. Carolyn was a world-traveler, who was passionate about learning more about the history of our world. She will be remembered for her unparalleled love for her “treasures”, sophisticated sense of style, and her voice of reason that grew louder as she matured in age.

A visitation will be held from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, July 9, 2020, at Lynch and Sons Funeral home, 1368 N Crooks Rd, Clawson, MI 48017.
