Our dear Dad, Henry Paul Cease Sr., age 92, passed peacefully away January 24, 2021, eager to join in heaven his loving wife, and our dear Mother, Helen. Henry was born June 14, 1928 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Frederick and Mary Kindgen Cease.

Henry was educated at Ahren Trade School in Louisville, before heeding the call to serve in the Army Air Corps during WWII - making him part of the “Greatest Generation.” Upon completion of his patriotic duty, Dad entered the Louisville Police Training Academy, graduating in 1951. Henry’s long career as a devoted and respected police officer spanned decades and titles in the law enforcement community. He was one of the good ones! He received a myriad of commendations and awards for his ever-professional service to all people of Louisville. Detective Henry “Hank” Cease retired in 1992 after 41 years of dedication. The mayor proclaimed September 11, 1992 “Henry Cease Day,” to celebrate this honorable man and service to his community. His most memorable accolade was the naming of the 2nd floor of the Detective Bureau “Hank’s Hallway,” after Dad. This tribute stands today and is widely known by all law enforcement officers who enter there.

Henry was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Helen Scannell Cease, his parents, Fred and Mary Cease, three brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his loving children: Paula Silk (Kenneth), Robin Tillett (David), and Sonny Cease (Jill); five grandchildren, Sarah Inman (David), Jeffrey Tillett (Allison), Christopher Tillett (Kaitlyn), and Emily & Allie Cease; four great-grandchildren, Campbell & Emma Inman, Charlie Tillett, and Edie Tillett - all who cherished their Papaw.

Due to Covid restrictions, private visitation and funeral services are being held at St. Agnes Church, 1920 Newburg Road, Louisville, KY 40205, beginning at 12:30pm on Thursday, January 28, 2021. Burial will follow the funeral mass and is limited to immediate family only. Burial Calvary Cemetery.
