Dolores “Jean” Fochler, 90, Hollidaysburg formerly of Altoona, passed away Monday, at The Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg. She was born in Altoona, the daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret (Miller) Reese. Jean married Edward J. Fochler on Oct. 16, 1954 and he preceded her in death in 1986.

Jean is survived by her daughters: Mary (Joseph) Lilly, Karen (Stephen) Moser, Diane (Skip) Dry, Christine (Michael) Scheinberg, Nancy (Missy) Fochler-McCaulley, Amy (Thomas) Palfey all of Altoona; two sons, Joseph (Mary) Fochler and Stephen (Sharon) Fochler of Hollidaysburg; a son-in-law, Bill Hauser of Altoona; twenty-one grandchildren: Justine (Misha) Kononov, Allison Lilly, Michelle (Justin) Leyo, Douglas Moser, Michael (Emily) Moser, Courtney (Zach) Lonsinger, Matthew Dry, Brian (Lacie) Fochler, Andrea (Zac) Scheck, Sydney Fochler, Ethan Fochler, Morgan (Hannah) Olson, Jenna (Jason) Briggs, Noah Scheinberg, Jacob Scheinberg, Rachel Scheinberg, Abigail Scheinberg, Tyler Palfey, Alyssa Palfey, Alexis Palfey and Trevor Palfey; thirteen great-grandchildren: Kazimir Kononov, Amalia Kononov, Rosalynne Leyo, Weston Leyo, Baby Leyo due in May, Logan Moser, Landon Moser, Sophia Moser, Kennedy Lonsinger, Savannah Lonsinger, Clara Scheck, Lucas Briggs and Ellery Briggs; her brother, Thomas Reese of Cresson and a sister, Edna McConnell of Altoona; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Elaine Hauser.

Jean was a 1948 graduate of Altoona High School. She had worked at the Altoona Mirror in the classified advertising department prior to her marriage and then became a loving wife, homemaker and mother to nine children, stating to her children this was the greatest career she could have ever had.

She loved life, her children, reading, gardening, cooking, fishing with her husband and brother and watching sports, especially Penn State. She was a great listener and very interested in people and their stories. Jean was devoted to her spirituality and faith. We are grateful to have had so many wonderful memories.

Jean’s children were certainly her pride and joy. She and her husband, Edward, taught by example, instilling in their children a deep love of family, a strong work ethic, kindness, caring, giving, sharing respect for all people and the value of education. Jean was especially proud that all her children graduated from Penn State University and became good people, caring about each other and enjoying each other’s company.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and the Citizens Concerned for the Unborn, Catholic Daughters of America, YWCA and the Kiwanis. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private funeral Mass will be held at the convenience if the family. Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made in Dolores’s memory to Discalced Carmelite Nuns, PO Box 57, Loretto, PA 15940 or a charity of your choice.
