Mary Ann Below Wright, 85, of Washburn, IL passed away at home on January 24, 2021 surrounded by her loving daughters. She fought a courageous health battle for the past 4 years. Mary Ann was born on April 12, 1935 in Indianapolis to Clarence (Ed) and Ann (Cangany) Below.
She is survived by her two daughters, Pam (Dale) Hansen and Dawn (Steve) Foreaker Gilbert, with whom she made her home in Washburn, IL. also surviving are her four grandchildren, Ryan (Angelica) Van Dyke, Amy (Quinn) Headington, Kayleigh (Brandon) Castillo, and CJ (Kaitlyn DeKeyser) Gilbert. She also leaves behind 7 great grandchildren who were her world. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents and brother Daniel Below.
Mary Ann graduated from St. Agnes Catholic Girls Academy in 1953. Mary Ann was a lifelong devout catholic and she so missed being able to attend masses during the past year. She practiced her faith daily and was a role model to many who loved her. She was always available and present for her family. She was a strong and forgiving woman always giving to others.
She retired in 1994 from a career in sales at Multi Ad Agency in Peoria, IL. she volunteered at Methodist Hospital for many years.
She asked that these words be included in her leaving: "Do not stand at my grave and weep. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the sunlight on the ripening grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. when you awaken in the morning rush, I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft star that shines at night. do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there...I did not die."
Cremation rights will be accorded by Cremation Society of Mid Illinois. We will have a celebration of life ceremony at a later yet to be determined date.
