Larry "LA" G. Adamson

Larry G. Adamson, 80, known by many as “LA” passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 28, 2021 with his family by his side at his daughter’s home in Rochelle after a short battle with cancer.
Larry was born on November 11, 1940 in Rochelle, IL, the son of Grant and Anna (Hayenga) Adamson. Larry’s mother, Anna passed away when he was four. His father then remarried Lorraine Theander (stepmother). Larry has three siblings, two sisters and one brother: Sue Wick, Gloria Svanda and Dan Adamson. Larry married Joann (Friday) Adamson on February 23, 1963. They had two children, Deborah Ann and Craig Allen. Although they later divorced, they continued a true friendship and always lent a helping hand to each other. They also enjoyed spending holidays together with their children and grandchildren until the very end.
Larry was self-employed all of his life. He ran a crane in his early days. We were told by many that “he was one of the best”. He has built a couple of houses, including the family lake house that has been enjoyed by many with lots of family memories to be cherished forever. Farming, landscaping, snow removal, wood working, welding and tinkering around his shop fixing lots of different machines is how he stayed young and active. There wasn’t anything Larry could not fix. If he ran into a problem, he would fabricate whatever was needed to get the job done. He recently told a family member that the one thing he would do over again and truly loved was the crane. His kids, grandkids, family members, and friends will walk away with so much knowledge that was learned from him that they otherwise would not have known.
Larry enjoyed hunting & shooting guns; he was an avid bowler and some will remember his love for racing snowmobiles competitively. He always loved spending time on the lake starting at a young age having his dad pull him and his brother, Dan, behind the pontoon. He loved riding a saucer with a chair on top, and since that wasn’t enough, he would stand on the chair. This might have been the beginning of Larry becoming a daredevil. Making fishing lures and attending fishing tournaments with his son, Craig, was something they both enjoyed doing together. Larry has passed his love for fishing and the outdoors down to his grandchildren, as well. For years, he spent summers pulling his kids and grandkids behind the boat, giving ski lessons and wild tube rides.
Larry is survived by his two children: Deborah (Mark) Klouse of Rochelle, IL, Craig (Rose) Adamson of Palmento, FL; seven grandchildren: Todd (Tiffany) Adamson of Burlington, IL, Briana Adamson of Machesney Park, IL, Branden Adamson of Rockford, IL, Amber (Kyle) Putzstuck of Rochelle, Jake (Alexa) Simmons of Rochelle, IL, Amanda Moreland (Darren) of Stillman Valley, IL, and Matt (Jennifer) Ames of Roscoe, IL; 15 great- grandchildren: Tate, Easton, Hayes, Marlee, Emmitt, Pearson, Theo, Brooks, Ryder, Gabrielle, Chase, Jacob, Emmitt, Ryan and Bryce; one nephew, Jeffery McCarren, and one niece, Tracy Svanda-Morse. He also had a very special relationship and shared many special memories with Jennifer La Rosa, Julie Pool, Michael Phillip and Sharon.
Larry is preceeded in death by his parents, Grant and Anna Adamson, and his stepmother, Lorraine Adamson.
