Michael K. Semo, Jr, of Patterson, NY, formerly of New York City, died peacefully on December 20, 2020. He was 79 years old.
Mike was born on February 12, 1941 in Manhattan, NY, son of the late Michael, Sr. and Charlotte. He was the longest serving legislator in Putnam County New York.
Mr. Semo was employed by International Business Machines (IBM) for over 23 years and retired in 1993. Mike was an Operations Manager at the Fishkill location and was promoted to Senior Engineer at the Latin American Headquarters. While concurrently working at IBM, he was elected to the Putnam County Legislature in 1987 and served for 23 years. The Honorable Michael K. Semo, Jr. served in several roles in the legislature including Chairman, Vice Chairman, and Chairman of several committees including Protective Services and Physical Services. As Chairman of Protective Services, he was instrumental in implementing a 911 system for the county emergency services, forming the Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force and originating the Youth Court. After retirement from IBM, he was employed by United Cerebral Palsy for 20 years. Mike was an avid hunter and was a life member and Chairman of the Board for the Patterson Sportsmans Club. In addition, Mike was a lifetime member of the Patterson Fire Department and Foreman of the Patterson Fire Police. In this capacity, he served his community for over 50 years.
Mr. Semo is survived by the mother of his children, Patricia, and his loving children; Michael, III and his wife Heather, from Bethlehem, PA, Mark, from Holmes, NY and Maria McFarland and her husband Shawn, from Fenton, MI and his 3 grandchildren Michael, IV, Sabrina and Ryan. He was predeceased by his Sister, Jacqueline.
Visitation will be held from 4pm-8pm on Monday, December 28, 2020 and Tuesday, December 29, 2020 from 12pm - 1 pm, at the Patterson Baptist Church, located at 595 NY 311 (Rt 311), Patterson, NY. A Funeral Service will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 29th at 1pm at the Patterson Baptist Church, 595 NY 311 (Rt 311), Patterson, NY and will be officiated by the Chaplain of the Patterson Fire Department, Reverend Dr. Larry A. Maxwell. A burial service will follow at the Maple Avenue Cemetery, Patterson, NY.
