Marian Louise Aly, who, along with her late husband, had operated the now-defunct Atlantic Coast Line Railroad Depot in Apopka for many years, died Wednesday, June 5. She was 95.
Aly died at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach. She had recently fallen and broken her hip. Friends and family said she never fully recovered and died after experiencing several other complications.
Aly and her husband, Ben, moved to Apopka in 1941. Her husband managed the depot. Mrs. Aly quit her nursing career to help her husband in the depot after his health began failing. After the depot was closed in the early 1960s and her husband's death in 1965, Mrs. Aly continued living in Apopka. Friends and family said she always worked in her yard, greeting her many friends who passed by each day.
She was born in Turbeville, S.C. on August 12, 1900, moving to Seville, Fla. in 1903. She attended school there through the 10th grade, moving to Jacksonville to enroll in St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing. Aly graduated as a registered nurse in 1924 and worked in several towns around the state before finally settling in Apopka.
Aly was cared for by friend Marge Stephens of Apopka, and her nephew, Robert Orrell of Port Orange. She is survived by stepson James Aly of Australia, and 19 nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted by Cardwell Funeral Home of Port Orange.
