"Virgil Legan age 68 found dead of a heart attack in the barn lot near his home southwest of Leonard last Wednesday evening, He had gone out to do his chores and when he did not return his wife became alarmed and went to look for him. A doctor was called and Mr. Legan was pronounced dead on arrival.
Born in Springfield Mr. Legan have moved to Leonard vicinity last March. He is survived by his wife the former Oma Reid. His body was returned to Springfield for interment"

The obit isn't correct on his burial place. His death certificate confirms he is buried in this cemetery on Jan 11, 1950 as well as the headstone photo. His death certificate said he died 5:15 P.M. of a Coronary Occlusion and that he had suffered with it since 1949. He had a obstruction in the coronary artery blocking the blood flow.

He was the son of John Legan and Sarah Elizabeth Ball. He married Mable Florence Straw on 9-9-1912 in Wellington, Kansas. He left his family in the late 1920 from New Mexico. Said he was going to Colorado to look for work and was never heard from again. However,he turned up married to Oma L.Reed by 1930 in Illinois. She is listed as his wife on his death certificate. Mable never divorced him or remarried. The family presumed he died shorty after disappearing. He left 2 small daughters, Beulah May born 1913 and Beatrice born 1923 in New Mexico.
The birth year listed here as August 7, 1882 does not match his birth year on his WW1 draft card of 8-7-1886.
Oma and her family were from the area in Cole County, Missouri. Virgil died in Leonard, Shelby County, Missouri and was buried in this cemetery. I believe Oma's family are buried here as well, the reason for Virgil's burial here.
