John Wesley Leftwich was the son of William Burwell Leftwich and Sarah Smith Leftwich. He married Elizabeth Kindred Ellis on Aug. 28, 1845, in Cooper County MO. They had two sons: Cornelius Alex and Edward Leftwich.
After Elizabeth's death about 1850 he married second to Devereaux Ball Travis Glasscock on Dec. 21, 1852, at Longwood, Pettis County MO. They had six children.
