Richard Lee Barfell, 75, of Van Buren, passed away at his residence on Friday, January 30, 2021. He was born March 19, 1945 in Van Buren, the son of the late Harold M. Barfell and Leota B. (Lentz) Lafferty. Richard married Ernestine Kay (Clark) Barfell and she preceded him in death.



Richard was a Van Buren High School graduate. He proudly served in the U.S. Marines as a Drill Sergeant during Vietnam. Richard was the business owner of the Van Buren Mobil Station in the village for over 40 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, mushroom hunting and gardening. He loved to socialize, never knew a stranger and was always willing to help anyone in need. Richard was the life of the party with a love for storytelling. He was past president and treasurer for the Eagles, a member of the DAV and the AMVETS.



Richard is survived by his two children, David (Alisha) Mitchell of Seymour, TN, and Brenda (Matt) Sampson of Findlay; 14 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Eugene Barfell, Edward M. (Cindy) Barfell, Paul D. (Linda) Barfell, Harold D. (Kathy) Barfell, and Robert L. (Rona) Barfell; sister, Shirley Smith; and his beloved dog, Daisy. Richard was preceded in death by a grandson, Brandon M. Barfell.



Friends and family may visit from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at HUFFORD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 1500 Manor Hill Rd, Findlay (419-422-1500). A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 3rd in the funeral home at 1 p.m. with Pastor David Clark officiating. Interment will follow in Bechtel Cemetery.
