Wife of George W. Dodson. Daughter of John Cantrell and Didama Van Hooser
Name is also listed as Mary Didema Cantrell

Mary Didema Cantrell was married to George William Dodson when she was only 16 years of
age. She was the last child born to Didema Van Hooser Cantrell who died December 8, 1871.
Mary Didema was only 3 years old when her mother died. Her father remarried to Luanna
Jane Linder in 1873. As a result of her mother's death and her father's remarriage, Mary
Didema had eight full brothers and sisters and six half brothers and sisters. Mary Didema had
few memories of her biological mother.

Dodsons marrying Cantrells throughout their family history accounts for the many first, second
and third cousins of the Dodson and Cantrell families.

William Robert Dodson remembers his great-grandmother as being a short person, thin, and as
having long dark hair. When he visited with his parents before her death, she gave Bill a toy
pistol. He still treasures that gun.

Mary Didema was the mother of nine children and multiple grandchildren. Unfortunately she
lived to see one of those nine children die. Alta Ray died in 1927.
After George's death, Mary Didema continued to live in Springfield in her apartment on
Commercial Street. She was very active. she was 82 years old at her death.
