On September 17, 1960 Carol and Richard R. “Abe” Abel were united in marriage in Georgia and shared that union of fifty-eight years until Richard’s death on September 8, 2018.
In the 1970s, Carol was a waitress at Dibble’s Inn and Chef Scholl’s Restaurant. She later went on to work the Oneida Healthcare Extended Care Facility as a nurse’s aide and later in her career to the Oneida Hospital as a ward clerk.
She was a former member of the Verona Presbyterian Church.
In her spare time she enjoyed knitting, sewing, and word searches and was an avid reader. Carol enjoyed her times spent with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are her one son and daughter-in-law, Roy (Dawn) Abel of Canastota; one daughter and son-in-law, Lorry (John Jr.) Christensen of Oneida; four grandchildren, Tyler, Traci, J.D. and Jessica; two step-grandchildren, Reannin and Patrick; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Diane Taylor of Buffalo and Mary Lou Martin of Herkimer; several nieces and nephews.
In keeping with the families wishes, there will be private Calling Hours and a private Funeral Service at the Malecki Funeral Home of Vernon. Her Burial will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Vernon, New York.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Oneida Healthcare Center or the Alzheimer’s Association in Carol’s memory.
