Joann C. Odenwelder went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at the age of 70. She was born in Allentown, PA on May 19, 1947. Joann graduated from A.C. Jones High School in Beeville, Texas and then worked at Chase Field Air Base in Beeville. Joann accepted a position at the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, Iran for almost 2 years. She then worked at Texas Parks Wildlife in Austin, Texas and obtained a Business Degree at University of Texas. She took off about a year to sail to the Bahamas with her soon to be husband Bud in his sailing vessel, Storm-a-long. Joann worked for Texas Association of School Boards in Austin as Division Director of Member Services and was a founding member of Toastmasters at TASB. She married the love of her life Wayne “Bud” Hughes on March 12, 1988. Joann and Bud ended up in Dripping Springs where they bought 20 acres, named it OHHO Plateau, built their dream home, a helicopter, an ultralight plane, and of course a landing strip. She was an officer in the Rotary Club in Dripping Springs. Joann obtained her real estate license and worked for Keller Williams for a while and went on to have her own brokerage company, “Joannco”. Joann and Bud got into the beekeeping business and made the absolute best honey. In between all of this, Joann wrote and published her own book, called “Thirteen Buttonholes”, a story of her mother during WWII, being in love and working in a Navy uniform mill. Joann enjoyed running, cycling, flying, and observing the natural world right outside her study window.
