OBITUARY: Lester Hinderaker, age, 80, of Story City, IA, died Friday, December 3, 2010 at Bethany Manor in Story City.
Lester D. Hinderaker was born on February 14, 1930, to Archie and Martha (Ruhnke) Hinderaker, on a farm northwest of Radcliffe, Iowa.
Les attended country school through the eighth grade and graduated from Radcliffe High School with the Class of 1947.
He was united in marriage to Marilyn Laidley on March 7, 1948 and lived on a farm northwest of Radcliffe. In 1951, they moved to the home farm, where Les had lived since he was 11 years old. Les diversified his farming operation by raising turkeys and feeding cattle.
Les was active in the Salem Lutheran Church and sang in the Fellowship Quartet. He served on the Hauge Lutheran Federation Board, as director for the Hardin County R.E.C. and district director for Land O’ Lakes. He also served on the Hamilton County Extension Council.
After Les retired, he and Marilyn moved to Story City. On September 29, 2010, he moved to Bethany Manor until he went with his Lord and Savior on December 3, 2010.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn of Story City, IA; one son Lynn Hinderaker and his wife Angela of Omaha, NE; one daughter Jodi Voigt and her husband Larry of Ankeny, IA; six grandchildren, Ryan Hinderaker, Joe Hinderaker, Mary Lynn Hinderaker, Missy Starr and her husband J, Brian Voigt and his wife Danielle and Scott Voigt; four great-grandchildren, Addison, Elijah, Camden and Kaiah Starr; two sisters, Geneva Hodnefield of Overland Park, KS and Mary Peterson and her husband Paul of Atlantic, IA; along with other relatives and friends.
