Maria Assumption Foster, 84, died at 12:20 p.m. Aug. 6, 2010, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo Center.

She was born Feb. 13, 1926, in Oran, Algeria, to Antoine Romero and Maria Garcia Romero, who preceded her in death.

On Oct. 5, 1946, she married Dallas E. Foster, who died Aug. 22, 1999.

As a World War II bride, Mrs. Foster was famous for her wonderful stories she shared with anyone who would listen in regard to her travel to the United States from Algeria in 1946. Upon coming to Lima, she formed the Cosmopolitan Club and enjoyed many costume parties that were themed with the different nationalities of the friends she made through the club. She was both a French and a Spanish teacher for Lima Central Catholic in the late 1960s and early 1970s. She also taught many people in her home. As well, she volunteered for St. Rita's Hospital for many years. Her pate and Buche de Noel logs was something everyone looked forward to during the holidays. She also was sought out for her seamstress abilities, which led her to be the manager of alterations at Elder-Beerman.

She was a member of St. Gerard Catholic Church and the Eagles Auxiliary. Her travels to Europe over the years were many where she was able to reunite with her many relatives and friends whom she leaves behind.

The deepest gratitude is extended to all the nurses and aides at the Toledo Hospice of Northwest Ohio who, through their love and compassion for our mother, made this journey a beautiful one.

Survivors include her children, Patrick Foster, of Lima, Giselle (Thomas) Denstedt, of Toledo, Cathy Jenkins, of Sylvania, and Marc D. (Theresa) Foster, of King, N.C.; her two granddaughters, Shawna and Tiffany Jenkins, both of Sylvania; a brother in France; many nieces and nephews; three sisters-in-law, Jo Lane VanBuskirk, of Elida, Rhea Rolsten, of Lima, and Patsy Binkley-Foster, of Wapakoneta; and a brother-in-law, Stephen Wayne Foster, of Lima.

She was preceded in death by numerous brothers and sisters.

Friends may call Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Services will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Gerard Catholic Church.
