William John Webster

Two Rivers, Wisconsin - William John Webster, age 93, of Two Rivers, WI passed into eternal life on February 3rd, 2021. William was a beloved husband, dad, grandpa, uncle, cousin and friend to many. Bill was born on July 26, 1927 to the late Archibald and Irma (Keller) Webster. He was the youngest of 5 children. He was born in Two Rivers, WI where his family owned and operated Crescent Woolen Mills.

After Washington High School he attended the University of Wisconsin - Madison and ultimately graduated from Marquette University where he was a member of Delta Sigma Pi. While working in Milwaukee he met Nancy Thompson and on August 23rd, 1958 they married at Holy Hill Basilica in Hubertus, WI where last year they would again sit in the first pew to celebrate their 62nd wedding anniversary. Nancy survives.

Bill and Nan left Milwaukee to move to Two Rivers where Bill began to help run Crescent Woolen Mills alongside his brothers. Bill retired at 68 while serving as President. It was because of the woolen mill that he is so affectionately known to many as "Wooly". Woolen mills are part of his family's genealogical history. The Webster name traces its history to the family occupation meaning, cloth weaver, where his ancestors provided services to the throne. Bill continued this legacy that started hundreds of years before him in Pudsey, England.

It was in Two Rivers that Bill and Nan had 4 sons- Jeffrey Webster, San Francisco; Kevin Webster, Two Rivers; Eric Webster, Two Rivers; and Reid Webster (Kelly Rychter), Chicago. In Two Rivers they built their family home on the East Twin River where numerous family adventures were had growing up on water. He is adored by his grandchildren Sydney Lockmann (19), Elliot (13), Leif (12), Kaiya (4) and Zander William (3). There is no better fun than Grandpa's scooter that the kids would spend hours riding around Bill and Nan's circle driveway. The Two Rivers community was extremely important to him. He enjoyed friendships at the Elk's, Rotary and Yacht Club. His friendly and humorous disposition afforded him the gift of numerous friends who were such an essential part of his life and whom he cherished. He also participated in philanthropy in the community from the library to the church to time served for those in need.

Bill was an avid traveler having visited all seven continents. He made friends throughout the world. Many of his trips were through the Foundation of International Cooperation which Nan served as President. On one cruise from South America to England Bill and Nan jumped in the ocean to swim across the equator. On another trip, 75 year old Bill and Nan both took their turn bungee jumping off a bridge in New Zealand. His last international trip was with his family to Puerto Vallarta in January 2020 where they celebrated his grandson's 2nd birthday. The toast involved a glass of wine to a bottle of milk. Many of their family trips were taken in his Bonanza airplane. His brother Robert introduced him to flying where they decided out of convenience they would land in Robert's backyard on Adams Street. After 50 years of flying Bill received the FAA's Wilbur Brother's Master Pilot Award. Bill was also passionate about photography where he captured many travels and family memories by developing his own photographs in the family's basement darkroom. Along with flying and photography he actively skied until he was 80 years old. He skied with family and friends enjoying every mountain from the Leland Webster family's Mt. LeBett to out west with friends and family for over 40 years straight.

He is preceded in death by his parents Archibald and Irma (Keller)Webster and his siblings; Leland (Betty) Webster, Robert (Lois) Webster, Charles (Jean) Webster and Jeanne(Bill) Groessl. While always remembering those who have passed, the Webster family to this day celebrates their annual family reunion involving golf and lots of laughs being thankful to the brothers and sister that started it all.

We will forever be grateful to the strength, faith, love and wisdom Bill has provided to us all. His faith life was at the core of his being. He encouraged a faith life in his family by the way he lived and his church involvement including the choir. Bill had an incredible sense of humor adding laughs and fun to almost every situation. His humor was infectious, with Bill nearly always making a person crack a smile. He was tech savvy by continually refreshing the family plane's aeronautic equipment, starting iPhone ownership in his 80s and following his favorite influencers on Twitter on his iPad. His adventurous spirit led him from air to undersea (SCUBA) to ice boating on the East Twin River. He was the one and only Wooly. A man of faith, incredible humor, infinite friends and love of his family.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Dave Pleier. Cremation will follow services and Bill will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery, Two Rivers at a later date.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church from 10:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m.
