Edna Maxine Alfred Smith, 84, formerly of Parkersburg, died Monday (March 7, 2005) at Harmar Place in Marietta.
She was born in Wirt County, W.Va., a daughter of the late James T. and Edna Mundell Alfred. She retired from the Wood County Board of Education and was a member of South Parkersburg United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two daughters and their spouses, Linda and John Bargeloh of Mechanicsville, Va., and Peggy and Larry Burfield of Reno, Ohio; two grandsons and their spouses, Chris and Tina Burfield of Mequon, Wis., and Jason and Maria Burfield of New York, N.Y.; three great-grandchildren, Thomas and Victoria Burfield of Mequon and Dylan Burfield of New York; a sister, Imogene Thomas of Parkersburg; three sisters-in-law, Ola Alfred of Youngtown, Ariz., Murrell McCoy of Belpre and Bonnie Smith of Mineral Wells, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy E. Smith, who died on March 20, 1985; a sister, Olga Ott; and two brothers, Duane and James "Jack" Alfred.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg with the Rev. Rick Brown officiating. Burial will be at Pisgah Cemetery in Wirt County. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today and until 12:30 p.m. Thursday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
