He first married Nancy A. Rice in 1841 and they had a son Orange A @ 1843. Nancy died and Nathaniel married Abigail Amelia Nickerson in Bureau County on Feb 4, 1845. They had five children, Helen, Caroline, Lucy J, Charles O and Marcellus N. In the 1860 census there is a son that is listed as Marches [sic] born @ 1853.
In the 1870 census it lists Nathaniel 53 & Abigail 44 with female Nilly 28, Ellen 23, Caroline 20, Marcellus 17, Lucy 11 and Charles 7.

Maine, June 1, 1817, lived in that state about 20 yrs and lived in Mass. two yrs, came to this state in 1839; lived in Putnam Co. 9 yrs, came to this county in 1848, and has lived here 28 yrs; Rep; Christian; owns 172 acres land, value $6,880; has held the offices of Supervisor, Town Clerk, Town Collector, Assessor, Commissioner of Highways, and Justice of the Peace; married Miss Abigail Amelia Nickerson, Feby 4, 1844; she was born in Clinton Co. Ohio, July 5, 1825; they have 5 children, two sons and three daughters; lost one son.
