Helen Cochran Abbott, age 87, of Rockmart, passed away Monday, March 22, 1999 in Dallas. Mrs. Abbott was born June 26, 1911 in Rockmart. She was a retired Rockmart High School History teacher with over 35 years of service. Mrs. Abbott was a 1932 graduate of the University of Georgia, a member of Polk County Retired Teachers Association, and a member of Rockmart First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Abbott, Sr., and her parents, John Madison and Susie Lawson Cochran. Survivors include two sons, Jack M. Abbott of Bedford, Texas and Robert C. Abbott of Rockmart; three grandchildren, Steve Abbott of Mansfield, Texas, Ted Abbott of Copenhagen, Denmark and Angela Mitchell of Marietta. Graveside services were held Wednesday, March 24, in Rose Hill Cemetery with the Rev. David Autry officiating. Freeman Harris Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
