Arnold Aaron Axcell, 91 years, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2003, at the Iler Lodge in Essex. Cherished husband to Jessie (nee Gillis). Loving father to Shona and Lonnie Jones of Essex, Moira and Michael McNeely of Marietta, GA. Also survived by 3 sisters & brothers in-law in England. Proud Papa to Trevor and Jacquelyn Jones of Ottawa; Brennan and Kerry Jones of Essex; Cristin and Jason Sidon of Brampton; Brianne McNeely and fiance Brent Legeree of Changsa, China. Very proud great Papa to Simon Jones of Ottawa. Born in England but raised in Canada, Arnold was a World War II veteran who returned to Maidstone with a Scottish bride and infant daughter, and later had a second daughter. He farmed for a few years then turned to other occupations. He made many friends as a High School bus driver, rural mail carrier, and in his thirteen years as Postmaster in Maidstone. He enjoyed membership in the Scottish Society, Trillium Club, and the Essex Retirees where he avidly played darts, cribbage, and alley, lawn and carpet bowling. Over his years he had been very active in his Church and was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 201, Essex. The true love of his life however was his best friend and wife of 60 years-Jessie. Friends may gather at the Stewart L. Kennedy Funeral Home, 128 Talbot St. N. Essex, on Tuesday from 2-5 and 7-9. Legion Service Tuesday at 7:30 pm. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2003, at the Bethel-Maidstone United Church at 11 a.m. Rev. Brenda Woodall officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre or the Bethel-Maidstone United Church would be appreciated by the family. Words cannot adequately express the gratitude we, the Axcell family, feel for the kindness, tender teasing, and countless hours of care that the staff at Iler Lodge have shown Dad.
