GUN BARREL CITY - Services for John B. Magness, 81, Gun Barrel City, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at Central Baptist Church of Mabank with the Rev. Kenneth Hensley officiating.

Graveside services are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Moore Memorial Gardens, Arlington, under direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home, Mabank.

Mr. Magness died Oct. 15, 2007, at a Tyler hospice.

He was born Dec. 28, 1925, in Currie and served in the Army during World War II. He retired in 1983 from the materials department of General Motors after 30 years of service and was a member of Central Baptist Church, Mabank, Masonic Lodge of Arlington, United Auto Workers, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his wife, Leota Magness, Gun Barrel City; sons, Johnny Magness, Argyle, Michael Walker, Somerville, and Clifton Walker, Woodville; daughters, Peggy Magness Christopher, Fort Worth, Phyllis Hancock, California, and Gaylene Compton, Canton; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
