Elisha Nathaniel was born on March 4, 1865 in Dent County, Missouri to Elisha Nathaniel Ball Sr (1825 - 1881) and Martha M. Yeary (1824–1870). Martha was born in Lee County, Virginia, daughter of Henry Yeary and Susanna Smith. His mother died when he was young. His father was a son of George Washington Ball and Sarah Moore.

His full siblings were; Sarah Josephine (1852–1928), Mary (1854–1939), Caltha (1855–1931),
Martha C. Ball (1857–1924). Henry Ball (1860–?), Carrie Jane (1862–1946), and James Tillman (1868–1953)
half-brother of Amanda Lucinda (1873–1960), Laura Ann (1873–1951), George (1875–?), William Asbury (1878–1952), and Arthur Ancil (1881–1968) from his father's second marriage.

He married Julia Ellen Fowler on February 21, 1888/89 and they had 3 children, two daughters and one son;
Syrena Murrell (1893–1974)
Earl Nathaniel (1895–1953)
Julia Irene (1898–1924)

Elisha served as a judge for Carter County and was a well respected member of the community.

He passed away on November 20, 1936 in Carter County at the home of his daughter Mrs. Murrell Parish.
