Scottsdale - Dennis Edward Austin of Scottsdale, Arizona, passed away on January 20, 2021 after an unexpected brief illness.

Dennis was born on July 2, 1953 in Santa Monica, California, the youngest of 2 sons, to Ralph and Gloria Austin. He moved to Thousand Oaks, California at age 6, and lived there until he was off to college. Dennis moved to Arizona in 1971 to attend Arizona State University. He graduated in 1975 with a Degree of Bachelor of Science in marketing. He loved Arizona so much that after graduation, he chose to stay and make it his home.

In 1969, on his 16th birthday, Dennis received his private pilot's license. He followed a family tradition, as both his mother and father were pilots by the time they were teenagers.

Dennis married fellow ASU graduate Susan Bowers in 1978. They later divorced but remained lifelong best friends until her passing in 1996.

Dennis met his future wife Kathi in 1960, shortly after moving to Thousand Oaks. Their first memories of each other were of carving polar bears out of Ivory Soap together in the 2nd grade. Dennis and Kathi both attended Ascension Lutheran Church and were in the same confirmation class there. They dated throughout much of high school. They went their separate ways after graduating but stayed in touch by phone or mail throughout the years. They reconnected just in time to attend their 30-year Thousand Oaks High School reunion in 2001. They married in 2004 and Kathi is incredibly grateful for the wonderful years they shared together. Dennis had a great and steadfast faith and that comforts Kathi greatly.

Dennis had a successful and rewarding career as a marketing professional. He was employed by Sterling Health as a Territory Manager; self-employed consultant for major American and Canadian companies including Bromar Arizona (Account Executive); DenMat Corporation; 3M; and the Cott Corporation.

Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Ralph F. Austin and his first wife Susan Bowers. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen ("Kathi") J. Austin of Scottsdale, AZ; mother, Gloria D. Austin, and brother, Ralph D. Austin, both of Scottsdale, AZ; 2 stepchildren Dennis is also survived by numerous beloved friends, but he was especially close to his best friend of 50 years.

Dennis felt strongly that no child should go hungry and he supported St. Mary's Food Bank. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Mary's Food Bank in his name.

Due to COVID-19, a memorial service is not being held at this time. A celebration of life may be held at a later date.
