She was born and raised in Kentucky, and met her husband while visiting relatives in Ohio. Family tradition says that she married Ehpraim Baker against her father's wishes. They were married in 1835 and lived in Ross and Highland Counties in Ohio, before moving to McDonough County and settling in Bethel Township in 1864. After her husband's death in 1874, she remained on their farm until moving to Macomb in 1885.

She was the mother of ten children: Levi, Frances, Lewis, Sarah, Mary, Hannah, Charles, William, Olive, and John; a young daughter, Florence, (next to the youngest) died in Ohio. Most of her children accompanied the family when they moved to Illinois after the Civil War in hopes of improving the health of her husband who suffered from chronic bronchitis and pulmonary tuberculosis.

Her obtituary appeared in the Macomb Journal on Tuesday, May 21, 1895 and included this information: "She is survived by 7 children, Levi Baker in Mercer Co, Ohio; Lewis Baker of Eldorado, Kansas; Mrs. Sarah E. Scott who lived with the deceased; Charles A. Baker and John H. Baker of Plymouth, Hancock County; William Baker of Bethel Twp.; Mrs. Olive M. Venard, wife of ex-city Marshall P.W. Venard of Macomb. She was a member of the Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Archer Cemetery in Bethel Twp. beside her husband." (Note: She was also survived by her daughter, Mary Clark, then living in either Kansas or Oklahoma.)
