She was in the Henderson Community Schools class of 1962 and graduated from Bethel College with a bachelor's degree in Education. She began teaching English at Peabody High School in 1966 and was there for three years, and then taught at Goessel High School for many years. Elaine was a devoted gardener, knitter, Anglophile, political conversationalist and most of all a READER. She especially loved books about books. Although she had no children of her own, she loved her nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews as her own.
Elaine was united in marriage to Herby Schroeder, Jr. on November 27, 1966 in Henderson, Nebraska. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include brothers, all of Henderson, NE; sisters, of Squaw Valley, CA, of Topeka, KS; sister-in-law, of Newton, KS; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister, Vesta Kroeker.
Cremation is planned. Private family services and inurnment will take place at a later date at Farmers Valley Cemetery, Henderson, Nebraska. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethesda Home, in care of Miller-Ott Funeral Home, PO Box 96, Goessel, KS 67053.
