Jewell was born in Moorehouse Mo. daughter of Gertude and Homer Cox. She lived in St Louis Mo for most of her life before moving to Cardwell Mo in the late 1960's. She was a Visiting Nurse, and mother of 7 children, Mom was an active member at the Calvary Full Gospel Church for years, before moving to Senath Mo. Mom did the best she could for all of us and every Christmas was every good thing she could make happen, Somewhat misunderstood sometimes yet still loved. Mom has one sister, Norma and 4 brothers, Jerry Wayne died in infancy, Don died at age 32, Kenneth and Laudale both deceased. Mom's father Homer, was a fisherman in Manila Ark. where he died from pneumonia at age 30, leaving Gertude with 5 children to raise.Mother being the oldest at age 13, was obligated to help feed and raise her siblings. Mom went to St Louis at a young age to work at the Dept. of Records for the military sending most of her money back home to support her family. Jewell met John Ruben Jackson, married January 24, 1944 and lived in Ark., Mich., before finally settling in St Louis for several years, then moved to Cardwell Mo to be near Dad's family, Gertude Martin (Mom's mother) followed soon with her husband and had a bar and grill, Shamrocks for 3 decades. Mom loved flowers and worked in her yard as much as she could. Mom was born with a congenital heart disease, that limited her activies for years, then on Mother's Day in 1987 she had open heart surgery which gave her several years of life that she could enjoy. Mom's trip to Arizona to visit her sister at age 65, was her first airline ride, it scared and excited her all the same time. Sedona was her favorite trip, she loved the relaxed atmosphere but glad to get back to her life in Cardwell. Mother was much loved by her family, she left us too soon again on another Mothers Day, she seemed to have Mothers Day as a focal point for happenings in her life, she had her first child, Sharyn on a Mothers Day as well, and again this being the fact, Sharyn was her most beautiful baby, and to her death she said this. Jewell and John were married for over 50 years, raising 3 girls, Sharyn, Carole, and Paula and 3 sons John Jr, Phillip (deceased) and David (Tad) also they adopted Jeffery Lynn. Mother left us on a beautiful sunday evening with her beloved granddaughter with her Tabitha. Mom leaves a hole in our lives, and yet we were better to have known her.
