The family of Horace "H.T." Abston will celebrate his life of 74 years at 10:00 am on Wednesday, August 5, 2020, at Lake Ridge Chapel. The family will host a time of fellowship and remembrance from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, August 4, 2020, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. He passed away on Monday, July 27, 2020. In support of the health of his family, face coverings are mandatory while attending the service and visitation. The service will be live-streamed and be available for thirty days on this page. Horace "H.T." Abston was born on February 24, 1946, to Horace and Ethelene Abston in Lubbock, Texas. He grew up in Lockettville, Texas, with his parents and his sister Cathy. H.T. attended Ropesville Church of Christ with his family. He helped his parents with the Abston Grocery Store and helped farm cotton until he graduated from Ropes High School. He joined the Air Force and left for Vietnam in June 1966 and remained active duty until August 1968, and reserve duty until August 1971. Afterward, he attended South Plains College, where he met the love of his life Johnnye "Mickey" Jordan. They married on August 10, 1969, in Levelland, Texas, at the First United Methodist Church.. Their first-born child Mary came along in 1970. They stayed in Lubbock until 1971 and then moved over the next few years for his work. They lived in Borger, Texas, Charleston, South Carolina, and then Huntsville, Alabama, where their next daughter, Tammie, was born in 1975. They made Lubbock their forever home in 1976 and where his last daughter Shana was born in 1977.
H.T. had a long career in sales, where he made many lifelong friends. He enjoyed spending time with his family. Some of his hobbies included dirt bike riding with the West Texas Boondockers (1981-1987), reading and watching Western books and shows, and traveling. Some of his favorite spots were Ruidoso, Santa Fe, and Las Vegas. He loved the horse races, playing blackjack and Texas Hold 'em, and slots with his wife and girls. He was a huge sports fan; he loved Texas Tech. One of his favorite events was going to watch the Lady Raiders with Mickey.
He was a devoted Papa. He never missed a track event, baseball, football, soccer, or basketball game. He attended every choir concert, play, and dance recital. Anytime the grandkids wanted a shake, he would make them one. H.T. was a loving father-in-law, brother, and uncle. He was always there with his fatherly advice and words of wisdom. You would never find a more devoted son. He helped take care of both his parents until their passing. He was also a second father to many of his daughters' friends. His door was always open to anyone in need.
He opened Raider Nutrition in 2012 with Tammie, where he and Mickey became "Mom and Pop" to many of the customers and how he became a part of the Herbalife family and made many friends.
He will be loved and missed by many, especially by his "Little Johnnye Michael." The legacy he leaves behind is his family because he taught us that family comes first.
