He was the son of Emory/Emery and Marietta (Armour) Chapin. After he recieved his education, he started the firm of Armour Brothers Banking Company in 1881 with his uncles. He later ran Armour and Company which was located in Chicago, Illinois. His third company was a stocks and bonds company which had offices in Chicago and New York City. On October 5, 1892, he married Elizabeth "Bessie" Mattocks Chapin in Chicago and they had four children: Simeon, Virginia, Elizabeth and Marietta.
He and Bessie moved to New York City in 1899 where he ran his company. They had homes in Pinehurst North Carolina, Myrtle Beach South Carolina, Chicago, New York City and a lake home on Geneva Lake in Wisconsin, which was called "Flowerside Farms". Simeon and his partner, Franklin G. Burroughs, were pioneer developers of the resort community of Myrtle Beach.
