2ND SOUTH CAROLINA INFANTRY
CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA

John Doby Kennedy was indeed Col, 2nd SC Infantry from Jan 1862 thru 22-Dec-64, when he was promoted to Brig General in command of Kershaw's old brigade, which he had been leading for over 6 months. He fought with Joe Johnston against Sherman, ending in the surrender in North Carolina in April 1865. He returned to Camden, was involved in local politics, and even served as consul general to Shanghai under Pres Cleveland. He died of a stroke in Camden 14-Apr-96, and is buried in Quaker Cemetery there, as is Kershaw.

This is possibly a cenotaph. Additional bio provided by Fred Black.
