R. D. "Bobby" Alderson, Jr., age 91, of Sweetwater passed away Saturday, February 27, 2021 at Hendrick Hospice Care in Abilene.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Trinity Baptist Church with Bill Stein officiating. McCoy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Bobby was born October 18, 1929 in Mineral Wells, Texas to the late Robert D., Sr. and Alice May (Burcham) Alderson. Bobby married Betty Elouise Sabin August 9, 1948 at Mineral Wells and they moved to Sweetwater from Big Spring in 1957. He worked as a Switchman for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company from 1951 until 1987.
Bobby was one of the founding members of the Sweetwater Rifle and Pistol Club, a member of the Texas Gun Collectors Association and his hobby was gun repair. He was very involved in the community doing volunteer work and had been a Little League Baseball coach in his early years. Bobby was a member and past Deacon at Trinity Baptist Church and a member of Sweetwater Masonic Lodge #571.
He is survived by his children, Danny Alderson and wife Connie of Abilene and Ann Head of Victoria, Texas; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Bobby was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty on May 30, 2013; and his half-brother, Duncan Alderson.
Donations may be made to Trinity Baptist Church in Sweetwater or Hendrick Hospice Care in Abilene.
