Frances Alene Martin was born and raised in New London, Ohio, in 1899 to Napoleon B. Martin and Bertha A. Kesler. She was an only child. Her parents divorced some time before she was 5. Both remarried, but had no other children. Her father was of French-Canadian decent and her mother was of Dutch and/or German decent. She married Robert L. Barker and moved to California to do mission work on reservations. Frances was a nurse. She and Robert had 4 children, Edward, Juanita, Lawrence, and Analene Barker, all born in San Bernardino, California between 1922 and 1930. They eventually moved to Lodi, California and continued to be part of the Seventh Day Adventist faith. Some time after 1942, Frances and Robert divorced. She moved back with her mother, who was always close to her, and both worked as attendants at the State Hospital in Stockton, California. After her mother passed, she moved to southern California, where some of her children had returned to live, for a time. Toward the end of her life, she returned to Stockton to live with her daughter, Juanita, where she succumbed to colon cancer at the age of 81. At this time, I have no known information about her marriage to Chase.
