1874 May 10: Born in Wardsboro, Windham, Vermont, the son of Lewis G. and Malvina M. Pike.
1880 Jun 1: Listed in the US Census as 6yo “son” in household of Lewis G. Bills, Wardsboro.

Leslie grew up on a farm in Wardsboro, working with his father, Lewis, and older brother, Lyman. It may be surmised he took a particular interest in managing the “power” of a team of real horses. By 1893, when Lyman went to New York to earn money as a carpenter, Leslie became a “teamster” who could be hired to drive wagonloads of goods and supplies from place to place.

1900 Jun 2: Leslie is listed in the US Census as a 26yo “lodger”, occupation “teamster” in the household of Lucy M. Sawyer, Athol, Worcester, Massachusetts

1904 Mar 27: Leslie was married in Manhattan NY to a 21yo immigrant from Sligo, Ireland, named Mary Kelly (1904, Manhattan, New York, New York, United States, New York City Municipal Archives, New York; FHL microfilm 1,556,703.) There is little information to be found about this marriage or about Leslie’s whereabouts from 1904 until his presence back in Vermont in 1915.

1915 Dec 31: The Vermont Phoenix reported that “a family gathering on Christmas day in the home of Lyman Bills on Newfane Hill……(included) Mrs. M.M. Bills, her three children…” This can readily be assumed to indicate that Leslie, the youngest of her three children was at the family celebration.

1918 Sep 4: Leslie and Nellie Spaulding were married in Williamsville. Before the wedding he reportedly resided in Putney, and was employed by Nellie’s widowed mother, Ella, to help on the Hoyt Spaulding farm in Dummerston.

1920 Jan: The US Census shows Leslie as head of the household on the Spaulding farm in Dummerston; Nellie and her mother lived there and also 6yo May L Laughton and 34yo Patrick H Cunningham

1924 Apr: The barn and house at the Hoyt Spaulding Farm were destroyed by fire. Leslie and Nellie lost all their belongings including all their dairy cattle and a horse which were in the barn.

1930 The USCensus shows Leslie and Nellie living on the Spaulding Farm in East Dummerston. They had worked hard to re-establish the farm and were able to continue to survive there.

1932 April 26: Leslie died at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Massachusetts, four days after the amputation of a leg which he had injured repeatedly. The primary cause of his death was given as hypertensive heart disease. Interment was at Dummerston Center Cemetery.
