A 1968 graduate of Myrtle Beach High School and the Wilson, NC, School of Nursing, she was the daughter of Lt. Col. (Ret.) Hamilton King Avery, II, and Hilda Mae Gause Avery of Myrtle Beach, both of whom preceded her in death.
Her nursing career spanned forty years and included service as a nurse in the emergency department of the former Ocean View Memorial Hospital in Myrtle Beach. Subsequently, she was the emergency room head nurse at The Hilton Head (SC) Hospital, and she later worked in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah, GA.
She served as a nurse and counselor with several alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers in Charleston, SC, and, most recently, as a charge nurse at the Institute of Psychiatry at the Medical University of South Carolina.
She is survived by her brother, Hamilton King Avery, III, of Las Vegas, NV, and cousins in South Carolina, Georgia, and Oregon.
Private services will be held at the Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel.
Inurnment at Lakeside Cemetery at a later date.
