Marie Catherine Appel, 88, of Dowell, MD passed away on November 8, 2014 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Born March 15, 1926 in Beckley, WV she was the daughter of the late Effie Anderson Simmons Flenner and Homer Ray Flenner.
She married her beloved husband Kenneth Edward Appel on June 29, 1946 in Cumberland, MD.
Marie loved animals, gardening, cooking, playing bingo, being a school volunteer, traveling, and spending time with her family. She was a member of Home Makers of America.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Effie & Homer Flenner as well as, her brothers, George William, Cyrus Lee, James Edward, Charles Lindy, Franklin Delano, Thomas Myles Flenner, and her sister Mildred Ilene Willis.
Marie is survived by her husband, Kenneth E. Appel, her children Melinda S. Appel and her husband David M.Williams of Annapolis, MD, Jeanie & Dean White of Lusby, MD, Kenneth E. Appel, Jr. of Little Orleans, MD, Chris J. Appel and his life partner Wendy M. Green of Lusby, MD,
Her grandchildren, Solange A. Charbonnier and her boyfriend Mark J. Long, Nina & Brian Kasper, and Jayden T. McDaniel. She is also survived by her sister, Dorothy Rosalind Blyth of Chesapeake, VA,
Her brother, Clayton Ray Flenner of Portsmouth, VA, and her close and dear friend Mr. Benson.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Rausch Funeral Home, P.A., 20 American Lane, Lusby, MD. The service celebrating her life will be held on Wednesday, November 12 at 10:00 am Rausch Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Harrell officiating. Interment will follow at Middleham Chapel Episcopal Church Cemetery, Lusby, MD.
The family invites everyone to attend the wake celebrating Marie's life at the American Legion Post #274, Lusby, MD, to be held directly following the interment.
Pallbearers are David Williams, Kenny Appel, Mark Long, Dean White, Solange Charbonnier and Nina Kasper.
