John Fletcher was a Union solider who enlisted September 12, 1861 in Company G of the 27th Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment. His enlistment papers indicate he was single, age 23, a farmer from Morgan County, and stood 5' 8" tall. He was killed in action on the third day of the Battle of Gettysburg. He died instantly when a musket ball pierced his chest.
He was the son of Isaac and Harriett Fletcher. His brother, Samuel O. Fletcher, also served in Company G. Samuel survived the war.
Buried under J. K. Fletcher of Company F. The grave is improperly marked.
