Town of Kossuth - Michael T. Kortens, age 76, of the Town of Kossuth, passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at his home.
Mike was born January 1, 1945 in Manitowoc, son of the late Paul, Sr. and Angeline (Shimek) Kortens. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School, Manitowoc with the Class of 1963. Mike was a self-employed farmer who owned and operated Rockwood Dairy Farm north of Rockwood until the time of his death.
Mike started his career in farming with his father Paul as a young man on the family farm. He was a member of the National Corn Growers Association, a volunteer firefighter for the Rockwood Fire Department for 15 years, a member of the National Write your Congressman Association, a member of the Manitowoc Milk Producers Cooperative and a member of the Dairy Herd Improvement Association. Farming was his life and a legacy of agriculture to everyone who knew him.
This farmer's work is finally done.
His cows are all milked. Their stalls are clean. He has swept in the last of the feed.
Today this farmer's work is finally done.
It is time his planter is put away. His crops are in. His rows are straight. Nothing left to do but hope and pray for warm weather and a gentle rain.
This farmer's work is finally done.
His children are his crops, you see. The very crops growing in the gentle breeze. My Dad took great pride until the day he died, In the crops he shared and the seeds he left behind.
He raised his kids, that he was proud to teach. And set our dreams, even if they seemed to be out of reach. We all grew in our own separate rows. Becoming a nurse, an Engineer, a mechanic, and a farmer.
Now it is time for us to plant our rows, and to keep them straight. We will hope and pray for crops to flourish in the sun and gentle rain.
This farmer's work is finally done.
Love and miss you Dad!
