Elizabeth was the daughter of Anthony Hawkredd and Isabel Bonner the the widow of William Earle & William Jeffrey her sister Sarah married Rev. John Cotton The Hawkredd's of Boston are a gentry family their linage was published by the Harleian Society.

Anthony Hawkredd was a Lawyer/ Merchant and the Mayor of Boston in Lincolnshire his son Anthony was recorded as a member of Grays Inn one of the four inns for barristers and Judges of London Court.

Sarah Hawkredd the widow of William Storie married Rev. John Cotton shortly after their marriage in 1632 the Act of Uniformity became law making Puritan acts of worship illigal. Rev. John Cotton went into hiding to avoid arrest for non-conforming practices.

Rev Cotton escaped to the stronghold of St. Stephens Church on Coleman St. in London and with the help of Rev. John Davenport the Vicar of St. Stephens Church in London was hidden in the Puritan underground. Rev. Davenport resigned from his benefice in 1633 and invited Cotton to come with him into exile in Holland but Cotton made his decision to immigrate to New England and on May 7th 1633 resigned from his benefice at St. Botolph Church in Lincolnshire. By summer he had reunited with his wife and boarded the ship Griffin with his family and fellow ministers to New England, his son Seaborn Cotton was born on the Atlantic during their Voyage to New England, this was recorded in Rev. Cottons journal.

Elizabeth Hawkredd the widow of John Coney married widower Oliver Mellows on January 1, 1633 It is a possibility they traveled together with her Hawkredd relative who married Rev. John Cotton in a family group on the Ship Griffin family to New England (note)

Oliver Mellows & Elizabeth Hawkredd removed to New England on the same ship with her sister Sarah Cotton and arrived at Boston, Massachusetts in July 1634, bringing his four children from his first marriage (ages 3 - 12), and her two children from her first marriage (ages 4 and 6). Oliver Mellows was a share holder in Massachusetts Company, and according to rules could bring servants with him. Thomas Pettit is recorded to have served Oliver Mellows 3 and a half years and received a house plot in Boston.

Elizabeth first marriage was to John Coney Dec 16, 1624 Boston Lincolnshire, England to John Coney 1596-1600 issue John Coney b.1628 Mary Coney b. 1630

Elizabeth's second marriage to Oliver Mellows January 1, 1633 Boston, Lincolnshire, England produced no children but with her third husband Thomas Makepeace she had two children William Makepeace & Joseph Makepeace.

He gave to his wife, Elizabeth; to his son Anthony Hawkred; to son Samuel Hawkredd; to daughter Mary, wife of Thomas Conye; to daughter Elizabeth, wife of John Conye; to Samuel Conye and John Conye, children of Thomas Conye; to son Samuel Hawkredd; to son John Hawkredd; to John Ayscough, his wife's son, at 21; son Anthony Hawkredd to be executor with brother-in-law William Hatcher, friend George Thorrold, sonnes-in-law Thomas Conye and John Conye, supervisors, at the discretion of John Cotton, Vicar of Boston and Anthonie Tuckney of Cambridge. Witnesses, Michaell Mitchell, Thomas Conie, William Thompson, Robert Reade. (Lincoln Consistory Court, 1628, 1: 46.) Inquest P. M., 1 Oct. 1628. of Anthony Hawkredd of Boston. Land in Boston &c., in consideration of marriage to Elizabeth Ayscough of Thornton, co. Lincoln, solemnised, 1 June 1616. Anthony Hawkredd made his will, 12 Aug. 1626, giving one-third part to son and heir Anthony Hawkredd and two-thirds to wife Elizabeth. Anthony Hawkredd died, 28 Apr. 1628. Elizabeth, his widow lived in Boston Lincolnshire until her death(Misc. Chancery, Vol. 532, No. 14.)"[1]Thomas Makepeace married (2) by 1641, Elizabeth (Hawkredd) (Coney) Mellowes, daughter of Anthony Hawkredd & widow of John Coney & Oliver Mellowes.
