Gene Jeffery Austin, Sr., 87, of Iuka, Mississippi, died Monday, March 1, 2021, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Mr. Austin was a member of the Iuka United Methodist Church. He was a U. S. Army veteran and served during the Korean War. He retired from AT&T where he worked as an engineer. Gene was a mason and belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star. He was also a supporter of the Gideons and was a former scoutmaster in the Boy Scouts of America. He was also an amateur radio enthusiast and enjoyed operating his ham radio. He is survived by his wife, Martha Mavous Farris Austin; two sons, Gene Jeffery Austin, Jr. and Paul Farris Austin; one grandchild, Nathaniel Austin; and four great-grandchildren, Zoe Austin, Piper Austin, William Jeffery-Jax Austin, and Stella Durham. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alda Benjamin and Maudie Idella Jeffery Austin. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 7, graveside at Tishomingo Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Harrell Moore. Interment will follow in Tishomingo Cemetery.
