ANDERSON, Ind.--William H. Grimes, 78, Edgewood Plaza Apartments, died Friday afternoon in Community Hospital after a long illness. He was the father of Michael F. Grimes, Anderson, advertising director for The Muncie Star and Evening Press.
Born in Winchester, Ky., he enlisted in the Navy when he was 16 and played in the John Phillips Sousa Band. Following service during World War I, he moved to Anderson in the 1920s and went to work for the Anderson Herald where he was employed in advertising sales for 53 years.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Maribeth) Newcomer, Anderson; three grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Pearl Leakey, Anderson.
His wife, Sarah, died in 1974.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Robert D. Loose Funeral Home with Rev. Verlin Smith, pastor of Whetstone United Church of Christ, officiating. Calling hours will be 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
