Circus Entertainer. José Soledad Aycardo, known as Don Chole, was a pioneer of Mexican circus and considered the first clown in Mexico during the 19th century. In 1841, he founded the 'Circo Olímpico' (Olympic Circus), the first Mexican circus. He also dominated equestrian shows, and was a puppeteer and acrobat. He wrote the plays "Las cuatro apariciones de la Virgen de Guadalupe" and "El hijo pródigo," which he performed in his circus, and later on theater stages.
