Patricia Anne “Patty” Simms Deaton, age 84, of Woodstock, Georgia, peacefully passed away, with her daughter by her side, in her home on February 24, 2021. She was born on December 28, 1936, in Cynthiana, Kentucky, to the late Ottis and Maryanna Simms. Patty graduated from Harrison County High School as a member of the Class of 1955. There she was a 4-H Champion. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Kentucky, where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. Patty was a talented artist and enjoyed gardening and farming. She was vibrant and full of life. She also loved horses and cooking, trying new recipes. Patty enjoyed a job as a food editor for the Atlanta Journal Constitution. She was a very devout Christian and a proud Methodist, and her love for God showed through her works. She was also a proud Republican. Patty was an extremely loving and devoted mother and wife. There are no words to describe what she meant to her family. Patty will be forever deeply loved and missed.

Left to cherish her memory are: a daughter, Lara Todd Deaton, and her husband, George Edwin Mittelholzer; and many cherished friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Clarke Deaton.

There will be a celebration of life service at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, March 7, in the chapel of Woodstock Funeral Home, 8855 Main Street, Woodstock, Georgia. For those unable to attend the service, it will be live streamed on the Woodstock Funeral Home Facebook page at facebook.com/134563673261373. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Following the service, there will be a reception and time of fellowship. In honor of Patty’s vibrant personality, Lara asks that, instead of wearing black, you wear your favorite color. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation in Patty’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org or the Humane Society of Atlanta at atlantahumane.org/#gsc.tab=0.
