Born 24 Oct 1815, in Chilmark. Dau. of Capt. Moses Adams (b. 1762) and Martha (Look) Adams, both parents born in Chilmark. * Their marriage took place in Mar 1799, Tisbury, MA. Moses was a Master Mariner.

Mary was the youngest child of seven, of Capt. Moses and Martha Adams.
All five of Mary's brothers became whaling masters, and her sister Martha married a whaling master. Martha never married.

~~ Moses Adams, brother of Martha, was a mariner, farmer and an inventor. He was also known for his two daughters, Lucy and Sarah Adams, who were born perfectly proportioned midgets. They became well known circus performers in the Gen'l. Tom Thumb Co.
