ASHBURN, VA - James Albert Quine, 88, beloved husband of Thecla Ezzy Quine, died peacefully on January 3, 2021. He was born April 15, 1932, in Bangor, ME to Marion Day Quine and James Patrick Quine.
He was a 1951 graduate of John Bapst High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force, serving from 1952-1956 as a crew chief on the C-54 Skymaster, traveling extensively in the US and Western Europe. After his enlistment, he returned to his beloved state of Maine and in 1960, received his degree from the University of Maine. He met his wife, Thecla, while teaching in Caribou, ME public schools from 1960-1964. After they married, they moved to Bangor, where he taught US History and Social Sciences at Bangor High School for 32 years, from 1964-1996. He loved teaching and making a difference in his community. In 1968, he received his Master's in Education from the University of Maine. He served as a part-time US Customs inspector from 1975 to 2004, at Bangor International Airport and Bar Harbor. He always had great stories to share about the many people he encountered while with US Customs.
James and Thecla loved spending time at their cottage, "Loon Lodge," at Molasses Pond, where they entertained family and friends and enjoyed nature's beauty. James is survived by his wife of 56 years, Thecla Ezzy Quine; his daughter, Barbara and her husband, Brian Roy, of Chantilly, VA; his son, Kevin Quine of Hudson, MA; granddaughter, Jessica Roy of Richmond, VA; and sister-in-law, Sandy Whalen Quine. He is predeceased by his brother, John Day Quine. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, funeral services and interment will be held at a later date.
