According to the 1893 published Treat Genealogy, Samuel was "a sheriff for Hartford Co., and a member of the legislature in 1793 and 1794. There was talk of making him governor of the state, but he died young...the house which he built is now occupied by his granddaughter Miss Phebe McKinney..."
By circa 1777, Samuel Treat, 3rd m. 1) Martha Wolcott, dau. of Ens. Roger Wolcott and Dorcas Burnham, b. Oct. 29, 1757. She d. Apr. 23, 1782 at East Windsor (g.s., Æ 24.) By this marriage was b. at least two children, perhaps others who died in infancy after Martha's death, but their birth or baptism dates are unknown. The only child of the marriage that survived infancy was:
• i. Martha Wolcott Treat, b. Sept. 18, 1778, bp. Jan. 3, 1779; m. Daniel McKinney of Ellington, Conn.
On Jan. 6, 1785, Samuel m. 2) Esther Wolcott, dau. of Dr. Alexander Wolcott and Mary Richards, b. July 17, 1749. She d. Nov. 28, 1841 at that part of East Windsor now South Windsor (g.s., Æ 92.) They had at least the following seven named children at East Windsor who have only known dates of baptism:
• ii. Sarah Treat, a twin, bp. June 18, 1786; d. in infancy in Feb. 1787.
• iii. Esther Treat, a twin, bp. June 18, 1786; m. Dr. Aurora McKinney.
• iv. Jerusha Treat, bp. May 20, 1787; never married and d. at South Windsor Dec. 3, 1858.
• v. Samuel Treat, 4th, bp. June 6, 1790; d. in his youth Feb. 22, 1799.
• vi. Harriet Treat, b. circa Oct. 1792; d. in infancy May 22, 1796.
• vii. Harry (q.v. Henry) Treat, bp. Jan. 13, 1793.
• viii. Clarissa Treat, bp. Dec. 14, 1794; m. Asahel Olcott, Jr.
