Fall of 1862,a sturdy band of pioneers under the leadership of Chaptain Miller, with George O Pitkin as teamster were en route to zion and the great Salt Lake Valley. Ann gave birth to Joseph William as they neared the Nebraska, Wyoming border near Deer Creek, Nebraska or Willow Springs, Wyoming twenty second day of Sept. On the twenty third of November 1862 Joseph William was given and name and blessing. Joseph in honor of the Prophet Joseph and William for the name of Ann's grandfather William Hartley. For nearly two years they had trials and hardships in Salt Lake Valley. Charles learned of better opportunities in Cache Valley and the fall of 1864, the family moved in Millville. Tenth of December 1886 Joseph married Eliza Ann Buckley. From Millville the family moved to Franklin, Idaho, where Joseph was engaged in farming and at time worked in the woolen mills where his father-in-law (Edmund Buckley) was owner and manger.
