DINEEN, JOSEPH PATRICK, M.D. Joseph Patrick Dineen, M.D. of Woodbridge, Connecticut died on September 19, 2014. He was born on February 26, 1929 in New York City and was the son of Justice Benedict D. Dineen and Mary Smith Dineen. He is survived by his wife Ila S. Dineen, his sons, Joseph P. Dineen, Jr., John C. Dineen, Andrew P. Dineen and Robert F. Dineen, Jr. as well as his grandchildren Joseph M. Dineen and Colin P. Dineen. He was predeceased by his brothers, Benedict D. Dineen and Robert F. Dineen. He graduated from St. Michael’s Grade School and Xavier High School in New York City. He subsequently graduated from Fordham University and Cornell University Medical College, and performed his surgical residence at New York Hospital. He served honorably as a Captain in the United States Army. Dr. Dineen practiced vascular-thoracic, trauma and general surgery. Dr. Dineen cared deeply about his patients and about improving the delivery of healthcare in America, and devoted countless hours to the improvement of trauma care and the training and development of first responders in Connecticut and throughout the country. He is a recipient of the Norman E. McSwain Leadership Award by the National Association of Emergency Technicians. During his long career as a surgeon, Dr. Dineen served as the Chief of Surgery at Griffin Hospital in Derby, Connecticut and as Chief of Trauma at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, Connecticut. He also practiced at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in West Haven, Connecticut. Dr. Dineen was a devoted husband and father, and his greatest source of pride was his family. He was an accomplished golfer and a former member of Race Brook Country Club and learned to play golf as a young man at Winged Foot Golf Club.
