Missy was the beloved Ferret 'Daughter' of findagrave contributor Frank Russo. Missy was a sweet little soul and great individual who lived a great life. We got Missy in January of 2000. She was small but absolutely beautiful with a gorgeous coat of fur. Her coat had a reddish tone to it so my Mom began calling her 'Red' for short. Of all the ferrets I have had, she was probably the most docile, with a very lady like disposition. She was sweet and loved to have people hold and pet her. Missy was a Happy-go-lucky Soul who used to love to play with her brothers and sisters, and enjoyed fooling around with our cat, Kitten. As with all my other babies, she was very loving. She also loved to eat kitten food and loved ferret treats. My nickname for her was "My Little Girl." She touched everyone that she met and was a special favorite of my nieces, especially Franny, Gianna and Samantha. My mother Rose especially loved her, and took great pleasure in feeding her by hand and also giving her a bath and then drying and brushing her so she would look beautiful. Missy was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer (Insulinoma) in early October of 2005 and in August of 2006 was diagnosed with adrenal cancer. I treated her for both diseases, giving her around the clock care and taking her for monthly doctor visits for almost 2 years. I would also hand feed her several times a day and give her medication (prelone) for her insulinoma twice a day. I would sometimes sing the song "Oh Little Girl Of Mine," when I fed her. She began losing weight during the summer of 2007, and also had trouble with her legs giving out due to severe arthritis. I took her for an emergency visit to the Rutherford Animal Hospital on October 26, 2007 where I decided that it was best to let her finally go. She was suffering from several other physical problems including anemia and just wasn't herself. Even though I could have let her stay in the hospital to be treated and given more tests, I felt it was time to give her peace from her pain. She crossed over the Rainbow Bridge just after 6pm. She went very peacefully under the watch of Dr. Cantamessa. Before she left me, I made sure that I held her and told her that she was my little girl. Before I said good-bye, I gave her one last ferret treat, which she eagerly ate. The staff at the Rutherford Animal Hospital told me that I did a great job in caring for her and that I should be proud of how I watched over her. The truth is, I am more proud of my "Little Girl" for how hard she fought to stay alive. I only had her just under 8 years, but it was the best 8 years anyone could ask for. She is in God's hands now and is playing and running with her other little buddies in Heaven. Of course, she will be missed every day of our lives, but, we also know that we will all one day be together when we cross over the Rainbow Bridge together. We love you Missy, "Our Little Girl."
