Dennis Armstrong, 71, passed away on March 8th in Fairborn, Ohio. Dennis was born in Frankfort, Kentucky to Albert Woodrow and Sallie Armstrong.

He played many sports throughout his life, including quarterback for Shelby County High School. He also briefly played football at Austin Peay University before enlisting in the Air Force. He served as an electrician during the Vietnam War. He was an electronics technician for the majority of his career.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years (and childhood sweetheart) Ellen. They enjoyed doing just about everything together, especially traveling. Their favorite spots were the Bahamas, Portugal and Scotland.

He is survived by his children, Eric Armstrong (Rachel) and Amy Armstrong Krier (Scott), both of Ohio. Dennis and Ellen had 5 grandchildren: Matthew Merchant, Thomas Arthur, Elizabeth Marie, Henry James, and Katherine Rose.

Dennis was known for his friendliness, silliness, cantankerousness, boisterous opinions, Dad jokes, a big laugh and even bigger heart. He is preceded in death by his eldest Brother, Ronald Armstrong and sister-in-laws Cyndi and Jo.

He is survived by brothers Ralph (Carol) Armstrong and Albert “Bert” Armstrong (Patty) as well as brother-in-law William “Bill” Merchant (Breneda). He is also survived by his sisters Sharon Olson and Sally Kiteck (Steve) as well as sisters-in-law Kathryn “Kate” Merchant (Lisa). Also, he leaves behind 20+ nieces and nephews, over 35 great nieces and nephews, and even a few great-great nieces and nephews.

Services (masked) will be held at Shannon Funeral home in Shelbyville, KY, on March 18th at 1PM. Burial will follow in the Grove Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville. Visitation is from 11AM to 1PM. There will be a link to watch the live service on Shannon Funeral Home’s websites (available for 90 days) for those avoiding travel due to Covid-19.
