Joseph Antoni Sochon, a survivor of World War II concentration camps, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007, at 92 years of age. Born in Poland and a veteran of their army, Joe immigrated to America in 1950 as a displaced person. He was employed as a tool and die maker at several Springfield manufacturers until 1963 when he became the third employee at the Bunn-o-Matic Corporation, where he remained until retiring 17 years later.

A resident on Grandview Avenue for many years, Joe moved in 1969 to an acreage near Sherman and tended nursery trees, ornamental shrubs and sold fresh cut Christmas trees. He kept homing pigeons and received numerous racing awards.

Services at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery in Riverton.

Joe is survived by Valaria, his wife of 62 years; two daughters; a granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a daughter, Eleanora; his parents; six brothers; and four sisters.
